Careers with Impact
More than one million Australians trust us with their money, and that trust shapes how we work every day. Our members sit at the centre of everything we do, guiding our decisions and the impact we strive to make.
We’re looking for people who are purpose-driven and accountable, who value inclusion and collaboration, and who are proactive in managing risk to protect our members’ long-term outcomes. In return, you’ll be part of an organisation where your work contributes to strong returns, real-world impact, and a culture that reflects the communities our members serve.
Bring your authentic and passionate self to this exceptional role #careerswithimpact
Lead the digital work that turns HESTA's investment data into clear, useful tools. As Senior React Developer, you'll work at the centre of the Investment Data and Systems (IDS) "hub and spoke" architecture, building tools that Investment Management (IM) and Investment Execution (IE) use every day, including the Asset Allocation and Compliance Tool (AACT).
This is a hands-on technical role at the front end of how a regulated financial services firm turns complex investment data into clear digital experiences. You'll pair strong React skills with a sharp eye for UX, building on top of HESTA's Investments Dataverse (AWS Lakehouse) and the wider investment systems landscape.
What you'll do
You'll work within the Investment Data and Systems team. You'll gather and maintain digital requirements across Investment Management and Investment Execution. You'll drive automation and centralisation of investments digital work, design and build React components, and turn raw data into visualisations that support real decisions. You'll lead development across three layers: the data source layer (HESTA's Enterprise Data Warehouse), the warehouse layer (extraction, aggregation, transformation and exception handling), and the reporting layer, where you'll partner closely with UX to get the visuals right.
Strong engineering discipline will run through your work. You'll drive test automation and test-driven design, build DevSecOps practice into digital pipelines, and hold projects to HESTA IDS's coding standards and Software Delivery Lifecycle. You'll work with Platform Engineering to prioritise pipeline and publication features, partner with solutions architects to turn data requirements into fit-for-purpose designs, and deploy and support digital products in AWS cloud environments.
Beyond building, you'll provide technical oversight. You'll review designs and code from across the team, mentor others toward strong solutions, and champion new digital technologies and languages. You'll work with Technical Writing on user guides, support production triage when issues come up, and help deliver the investment change backlog. Throughout, you'll build strong relationships across HESTA Technology, IM and IE, so digital requirements stay aligned with what the business actually needs.
What you'll bring
You bring solid experience building modern React components and a real grounding in UX design. You have advanced skills across React JS, Node.js, TypeScript, JavaScript, HTML5, CSS3, React Native and Python. You're comfortable with integration patterns like GraphQL, you write advanced SQL, and you know both the AWS and Microsoft Azure ecosystems, ideally with AEM experience. You understand data security and privacy rules well enough to apply real controls — encryption, access management, data anonymisation — and you know how to design efficient digital pipelines.
You have strong working knowledge of CI/CD tools such as Bitbucket Pipelines, BrowserStack and Veracode. You've worked with authentication systems like Okta, and you've integrated third-party REST APIs using OAuth 2.0, API keys, bearer tokens and JWTs.
Highly desirable is experience with investment instruments (fixed income, derivatives, equities, infrastructure, property). Also desirable is keeping abreast of emerging trends in digital technology and data visualisation, you have used AI and LLMs in digital development, know more React frameworks in depth, have worked with cloud-based big data platforms such as AWS or GCP, and have built FastAPI (or similar) services to support a digital stack.
You've shown real skill in complex programming, debugging and problem-solving in open-source applications. You know how to architect secure web applications against current threats. You bring strong analytical skills and sound judgement in fast-paced, ambiguous settings. You have a proven record of planning and prioritising competing work to deliver digital, data and analytics outcomes that meet business goals. A UX design qualification or certification will set you apart.
