We are on the lookout for an experienced and motivated Senior Legal Counsel to join our high-performing legal team on a 12-month parental leave maximum term contract.   Ideal start date will be 19 January 2025.
This role is perfect for a proactive legal professional with 8+ years post-qualification experience (PQE) in investments (M&A, banking & finance and/or investment funds) who is eager to contribute their expertise and thrive in a collaborative environment.
As a Senior Legal Counsel –focusing on HESTA’s investments, you will play a pivotal role in advising on HESTA's diverse range of investment types. This includes attending to the documentation and management of the legal aspects of HESTA’s investment relationships with external parties, legal risk management and regulatory advice/oversight.  

 

Your day will see  you:

  • Collaborating primarily with the Investment Management (IM) and Investment Execution (IE) teams, while also engaging with the Tax, Compliance, Risk and broader Legal teams
  • Structuring and negotiating investment relationships and fund formations
  • Reviewing and advising on investment management agreements
  • Negotiating and executing direct investments, including property, infrastructure and private equity investments
  • Providing advice on key regulations both in Australia and overseas, including with respect to competition laws, foreign filing regimes, corporations laws and AML/CTF/sanctions laws
  • Advising on operational aspects of investments
  • Managing legal risks and ensuring regulatory compliance
  • Supporting the broader Legal team with the negotiation of material contracts and responding to regulatory inquiries
  • Participating in multi-disciplinary project teams
  • Assisting with organisational initiatives and regulatory developments

 

About you:

  • 8+ years post-qualification experience (PQE) in private practice or in-house
  • Strong experience in either M&A, investment management or investment funds
  • A strong background in banking and finance is desirable (but not essential)
  • An understanding of superannuation laws is desirable (but not essential)
  • Proven ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment
  • Eager to learn and take on new challenges
  • Excellent team player with a positive, solutions-focused attitude
