Lead Tax Excellence in one of Australia’s Premier Super Funds

HESTA is seeking a highly experienced and strategic tax professional to join our collaborative team as the Manager Investment Tax Governance. In this pivotal role, you will ensure the highest standards of tax governance and risk management  are achieved and maintained across HESTA’s investment activities.  

As a key leader, you will oversee all aspects of HESTA’s tax matters, with a primary focus on investment governance and custodian investment reporting. You’ll drive operational efficiency and lead a small team of tax professionals. Your expertise will add value through deep industry and taxation knowledge, supporting HESTA’s commercial objectives.

 

Your day will see you:
•    Develop and implement a robust Tax Management Framework aligned with ATO Justified Trust and HESTA’s risk management strategies.
•    Oversee and enhance controls on investment data received from the custodian, ensuring accuracy and regulatory compliance.
•    Collaborate with the Investment Operations team to support onboarding of new investments and ensure correct classification of investment managers.
•    Lead the implementation of investment transactions, ensuring accounting records align with tax technical treatment.
•    Support the GM Tax in managing third-party data governance and the relationship with the custodian.
•    Manage foreign withholding tax reclaim processes and liaise with international tax agents.
•    Maintain and update all taxation-related policies and procedures.
•    Respond to audit and information requests from local and overseas tax authorities.
•    Lead, coach, and develop your team, setting clear objectives and driving high performance.

 

About You:
•    Chartered Accountant or CPA with appropriate tertiary qualifications in accounting, tax, or finance.
•    Minimum 15 years’ experience in the Financial Services industry, particularly within superannuation funds or custodians.
•    Extensive technical knowledge of the Australian tax system, investment tax, and global tax environments.
•    Proven leadership experience, with the ability to build capability and manage team performance.
•    Strong understanding of custody processes, investment data reporting, and superannuation industry operations.
•    Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and financial reporting.
