Be inspired everyday – let your work make a difference #Superwithimpact

More than one million Australians trust us with their money, and that trust shapes how we work every day. Our members sit at the centre of everything we do, guiding our decisions and the impact we strive to make.

We’re looking for people who are purpose-driven and accountable, who value inclusion and collaboration, and who are proactive in managing risk to protect our members’ long-term outcomes. In return, you’ll be part of an organisation where your work contributes to strong returns, real-world impact, and a culture that reflects the communities our members serve.

The opportunity – ‘Do what you love, and you’ll never work a day in your life’ #careerswithimpact

Our legal team is growing!

In this newly created 12 month Maximum Term Contract role, you'll use your expertise across regulatory engagements, litigation strategy and dispute resolution to deliver high quality, timely and cost-effective legal services in connection with HESTA's engagement with regulators and its management of disputes and litigation.

About the role:

As Legal Counsel (Disputes and Regulatory Matters), you'll support our Senior legal Counsel on HESTA's response to regulator engagements and disputes. This includes:

  • taking the lead in matters involving legal correspondences with regulators such as ASIC and APRA.
  • Advising on HESTA's member disputes, insurance disputes and non-investment commercial litigation, instructing and overseeing external counsel.
  • Advising on privilege, privacy and disclosure considerations across document production and regulatory engagement.
  • Contributing to policy and governance work, including legal hold procedures, e-discovery and data retention practices.

About you:

You bring strong technical grounding in regulatory notices, investigations and enforcement, ideally gained with respect to engagements with ASIC and/or APRA in a financial services context. You're comfortable managing multiple high priority matters under time pressure, and you communicate complex legal positions clearly to senior stakeholders. A practical, solutions-focused mindset matters as much as technical depth here.

  • Admitted to practice as a lawyer in Australia, with a current unrestricted practising certificate.
  • + years PQE, with experience responding to regulatory notices and managing litigation or dispute resolution.
  • Experience instructing and managing external legal advisers, including budgets and workstreams.
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision, and to work collaboratively within multi-disciplined teams involving senior stakeholders.
Working knowledge of superannuation law (SIS Act, APRA Prudential Standards) and the Corporations Act is highly regarded.

If you've been looking for an In-house Regulatory Counsel role where your work has genuine impact, we'd love to hear from you.
