As the Investment Manager – Portfolio Risk, you will be responsible for developing and maintaining high quality risk models and analytics to monitor, stress test and inform investment risk-taking. 

 

Reporting to the General Manager – Portfolio Construction and Risk, you will work collaboratively across the Investment Management team to provide views on emerging macro or market opportunities and risks in the portfolios and make investment recommendations to improve portfolio performance.

 

Whilst role modelling and championing a strong risk culture, you will develop and maintain comprehensive the long-term risk budgeting model and develop customized risk dashboards, monitor changes to portfolio positioning and risk exposures and report investment risk outcomes (both ex-post and ex-ante) against target investment objectives. You will be responsible for developing HESTA’s whole of fund ex-ante core risk models including portfolio risk mapping, stress testing, scenario analysis and risk playbooks. 

 

You will have the opportunity to work on projects and contribute to the strategic asset allocation process, asset class strategies, research volatility, provide views on tilts and partner with members of the investment team to drive continuous improvement and innovation in HESTA’s risk infrastructure to enable agile, risk aware decision making. 

This role could be based in Melbourne or Sydney.


About you

As an experienced investment risk professional with a Total Portfolio Approach mindset, successful applicants will need to demonstrate:

•    experience in statistical/econometric modelling
•    a proven track record in people leadership
•    demonstrated experience in identifying opportunities for process efficiencies
•    experience in quantitative analysis and interpretation of capital market data
•    deep knowledge of the application of asset allocation optimisation techniques and use of quantitative risk modelling
•    knowledge investment compliance and risk management frameworks, especially as it relates to portfolio risks
•    deep knowledge of portfolio construction approaches, monte-carlo simulation and other risk modelling considerations (e.g. Value at risk, tracking error, risk factor analysis)
•    deep understanding of interrelationships of different asset classes and sub-betas within and across total portfolio
