We are seeking an Australian Equities Investment Manager to join our Direct Equities program. This is an exceptional opportunity to join our internal portfolio management team and make a meaningful impact on our members' financial futures.

 

As Investment Manager, Direct Equities, you will be part of the team responsible for the strategic oversight and portfolio management of HESTA's direct equities investment program, with a focus on Australian equities. You will contribute to HESTA's Total Portfolio Approach and be a people leader for Analysts in the team.

 

In this pivotal role, you will contribute to portfolio strategy development and implementation for internally managed Australian equities, driving investment decisions through comprehensive research and market insights. You'll be responsible for managing portfolio risk/return attributes while ensuring compliance with mandate guidelines, and developing enhanced investment process platforms. Your role will involve conducting in-depth strategic analysis of companies, including their competitive advantages and sustainability practices, while maintaining strong relationships with key stakeholders including companies, investment banks and research providers. As a leader, you'll mentor and develop your team while contributing significantly to HESTA's responsible investment initiatives and ESG integration.

 

About You

 

The successful candidate will possess undergraduate and postgraduate qualifications in business, accounting, commerce, economics, or a related field, complemented by proven experience in Australian equity research and extensive experience in portfolio management. Strong financial modeling and analytical skills, including advanced Excel proficiency, are essential. CFA qualification or relevant postgraduate finance qualifications are highly regarded, as is experience with an investment bank, super fund, fund manager, or in project finance.

 

We're looking for a strategic thinker with leadership and mentoring skills. You'll need to demonstrate outstanding stakeholder management abilities and possess a deep understanding of Australian and global financial markets. Your track record should show success in equity analysis and portfolio management, coupled with a genuine commitment to ESG principles and responsible investing. Most importantly, you'll bring a growth mindset and dedication to continuous learning that aligns with our organisational values.
