Careers with Impact

More than one million Australians trust us with their money, and that trust shapes how we work every day. Our members sit at the centre of everything we do, guiding our decisions and the impact we strive to make.

We’re looking for people who are purpose-driven and accountable, who value inclusion and collaboration, and who are proactive in managing risk to protect our members’ long-term outcomes. In return, you’ll be part of an organisation where your work contributes to strong returns, real-world impact, and a culture that reflects the communities our members serve.

Bring your authentic and passionate self to this exceptional role #careerswithimpact

This is a rare opportunity to lead property investment strategy at scale. You will own the end-to-end property investment program, from strategy development and manager selection through to direct asset management and ESG integration. Along the way, you will build and lead a high-performing team, utilise and deepen your expertise across direct, unlisted and listed property vehicles, and work shoulder-to-shoulder with some of the best investment minds in the country.

About the role

You will lead HESTA's Property asset class, driving strategy, overseeing asset management, and ensuring the portfolio delivers strong risk-adjusted returns for members. This is a hands-on leadership role with board-level visibility, working closely with the Head of Portfolio Management, the Private Markets team and the broader Investment Management team.

  • Set and execute property investment strategy across direct, unlisted and listed vehicles, consistent with HESTA's Total Portfolio Approach
  • Lead asset management of directly held property assets, including governance, operations, valuations and reporting
  • Manage and develop external fund manager relationships, including fee negotiations and performance monitoring
  • Drive HESTA's ESG commitments through property manager and asset selection, and embed responsible investment principles across the portfolio

About you

The scope of this role requires a senior figure in the Australian property investment landscape with a sharp mind and strong leadership credentials.

You bring significant experience managing a portfolio of direct and indirect unlisted property investments, with strong foundations in asset management, financial modelling and fund manager analysis. You know how to lead a technical team, manage complex stakeholder relationships and operate with clarity in a dynamic, purpose-driven environment.

  • Demonstrated experience managing direct and indirect property portfolios, including standing assets and development investments
  • Solid track record in property fund manager research, selection and monitoring, ideally within a super fund, fund manager or research house
  • Experience with financial modelling specific to property, including valuations, cash flow analysis and development feasibility
  • Proven people leadership skills, with experience building and retaining high-performing teams through change
