In return, you’ll be part of an organisation where your work contributes to strong returns, real-world impact, and a culture that reflects the communities our members serve.
Bring your authentic and passionate self to this exceptional role #careerswithimpact
We're looking for a General Manager to take primary responsibility for strategy development, decision implementation and asset management across our Infrastructure and Private Equity portfolios — a significant part of our overall Unlisted Assets investment program. You'll lead a team of Investment Managers across these asset classes, working closely with the Head of Portfolio Management and collaboratively with the General Manager – Property to deliver and manage HESTA's unlisted asset exposures.
This is a senior leadership role with genuine scope to shape strategy, negotiate directly with managers, and build a high-performing team — all while ensuring the best possible risk-adjusted returns for members at the lowest achievable cost.
What you'll be doing
- Directing and overseeing strategy development across Infrastructure and Private Equity, consistent with Trustee Board and CIO direction
- Managing efficient implementation of Board and delegated decisions across the Unlisted Assets team
- Managing the relationship between the Unlisted Assets team and relevant investment advisors
- Leading the Private Markets team — fostering a strong TPA culture, driving collaboration across Portfolio Management and the wider Investment team, and developing team and individual performance plans
- Conducting research and preparing reports on new investment ideas and strategies, and contributing to broader Investments strategy and planning
- Developing and implementing an Asset Management framework for Infrastructure and Private Equity, overseeing governance, operations, reporting and valuation of specific unlisted assets
- Driving HESTA's ESG goals through manager and asset selection and monitoring processes
- Ensuring asset class configurations meet return objectives for single asset class and diversified investment options
- Contributing to Investment Management leadership as part of the senior leadership team, and helping influence Board-designated Strategic Investments
What you’ll bring
- Significant experience managing a portfolio of direct equity or debt investments in infrastructure or private equity
- Significant experience in the analysis and structuring of direct investments in infrastructure or private equity
- Significant experience analysing fund managers and portfolios at a super fund, fund manager or research house
- Experience managing multiple stakeholders, and fee budgeting at a sector level
- Experience developing portfolio sector strategy and sourcing investment opportunities consistent with investment strategy
- A proven track record in people leadership — supporting, engaging and retaining high-performing teams, including through periods of significant change
- Deep knowledge of the return and risk characteristics and direct business dynamics in infrastructure and private equity
- Strong financial modelling, investment strategy and analytics capability
