Join HESTA as General Manager – Investment Risk and play a critical role at the centre of investment decision-making. Reporting to the Head of Risk and working in close partnership with the CRO, CIO and COO and their teams, you’ll provide independent second line risk advice and oversight, influencing decisions that protect and grow our members’ retirement outcomes.
At a time of continued evolution and internalisation, this role offers the opportunity to strengthen frameworks, embed a strong risk culture, and shape how risk is understood and managed across a sophisticated investment portfolio.
About the role
- Lead the second line investment risk advisory and oversight team, including identifying and assessing current and emerging risks across investment management and investment operations to senior executives and Board Committees.
- Strengthen investment risk governance in line with the Enterprise Risk Management Framework and aligned to SPS 530, SPS 220 and CPS 230, including stress testing, liquidity, model and valuation risk.
- Partner with Investment teams to challenge, advise and embed risk practices across investment functions, including manager selection, asset allocation and investment operations and market risk activities.
- Oversee investment risk measures and analytics, stress testing reporting and key service provider arrangements.
- Provide independent risk oversight of investment related programs, including internalisation initiatives and enhanced oversight of internally managed portfolios.
- Collaborate across the broader Risk, Compliance and Internal Audit to embed controls, support assurance and uplift risk maturity.
- Produce relevant investment risk reporting for a range of audiences, including Executive and Board Committees.
You’ll bring
- Experience across both investment (1st line) and investment risk (2nd line) roles in complex environments.
- Deep expertise in investment risk frameworks and their practical application.
- Proven ability to influence, challenge and educate senior stakeholders.
- Strong track record engaging with regulators (APRA, ASIC, AUSTRAC) and governance forums.
